Nashville Comedy Music act Kurplunk’s New Album Pokes Fun at Everything From Llamas to Poop

NASHVILLE, TN– 27 January 2026:

Kurplunk’s founding member Kurt Kirton has been singing, writing, and producing dance music for more than 25 years. So why the shift to comedy? “I’ve been a funny guy for a long time. And, we’ve had at least one humorous song on each INEVITABLE album (Kirton’s EDM band) since the beginning (15 years ago.)

After getting some hilarious song ideas and having read a 2020 Wall Street Journal article about (comedy music act) The Toilet Bowl Cleaners, I thought, ‘If Matt Farley can have success with poop songs, why can’t we?!’ Poop will always be funny, at least to many. But the topics on our new album run the gamut, poking fun at single-ply toilet paper, the digestive impact of sugar free gummi bears, and the lingering trend of slouching pants too.”

“We,” being fellow INEVITABLE band mate Jason Beetz plus a female singer for their live shows. Like many humor artists—and there are so many more than you think—Kirton grew up on Weird Al and Doctor Demento. “A friend in junior college introduced me to Al’s music, and someone made me a Doctor Demento mix tape when I was in grad school. I’ve been hooked ever since. Who doesn’t need a laugh regularly?!”

Lyrical inspiration for Splashback, their debut album, came from brainstorming sessions with Beetz as well as guitar player friend Heath Bertram, both former fellow Nashvillians. “Nashville’s known for country music, but there are so many other styles coming out of this city now.”

Having been the humor column writer for his high school newspaper in the 80’s, Kirton pulled from one article for the lyrical content of “Bananas,” about how funny they are as a fruit. Not knowing there were a couple of other songs by the same name, Bertram proposed “Skeeter on my Peeter” as well as “Little Deuce Poop.” “Watch Out, Llama Spits!” was born out of not only watching too much YouTube, but also an experience Kirton had as a kid at the Mississippi State Fair.

All of them landed on the album—a tromp through many musical styles—with other titles filling up a growing list of future song ideas. “Occasionally inspiration will strike, and I’ll add more titles to the list—it’s already passed 40! And we plan to develop and release most of them on forthcoming Kurplunk albums. Working on these songs is a riot, and we hope they bring as many smiles and chuckles to listeners as they do us,” Kirton grins.

Having appeared on The FuMP’s (which stands for The Funny Music Project) video podcast as well as The Virtual Music Comedy Show, Kirton is excited to release Splashback on February 13th. He’ll also being performing a few those songs at Marscon, the comedy music conference near Minneapolis in March.

“We’ve had five singles (including remixes) release leading up to the street date, and now the whole thing will be available across the music platforms. INEVITABLE is still going, we’re just tag-teaming between bands for what’s releasing. INEVITABLE’S new album drops later this year, but we’re so excited to debut our first foray into humor music and get started writing for the next Kurplunk album!” Kirton explains.
